Extracurricular foreign language Course Offering

In the academic year 2024-2025, students may select from the following extracurricular language module options. The listed modules consist of two consecutive courses each, with 67.5 learning units per semester.

The listed prerequisites refer to the winter semester; the prerequisites for the continuation courses in the summer semester are the successful completion (or equivalent competencies) of the winter semester course. The fee per semester is € 100.

The scheduling is designed so that there are no conflicts for full-time bachelor students if the accompanying language modules are taken in the same academic year as the language modules included in the curriculum. Students in part-time or master's programs should check their regular course schedules for conflicts before registering for additional extracurricular foreign language modules.


Courses for beginners

  • Chinese (A1-A2): Wednesdays 8:45 am – 12 pm
  • Spanish (A1-A2): Wednesdays 8:45 am – 12 pm or Thursdays 1:30 pm – 4:45 pm
  • German for Business Professionals (A1-A2): Tuesdays 7 pm – 8:45 pm via MS Teams plus Thursdays 7 pm – 8:45 pm on campus


Courses at intermediate or advanced level

  • Business French (B1-B2): Wednesdays 8:45 am – 12 pm
  • Business Italian (B1-B2): Wednesdays 8:45 am – 12 pm
  • Business Spanish (B1-B2): Wednesdays 9:30 am -12:30 pm or Thursdays 9:30 am – 12:30 pm
  • Business English (B2-C1): Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays 8:45 am – 12 pm or Wednesdays or Thursdays 1:30 pm – 4:45 pm
  • Business English (C1-C2): Wednesdays or Thursdays 8:45 am – 12 pm or Wednesdays 1 pm – 4:15 pm

Content

The language modules offered are designed according to the methodological principles of a communicative, action-oriented approach. The competence levels of the modules offered are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and a central objective is that students expand their communication skills by at least one level through the two courses that build on each other in the winter and summer semesters. In addition, there is a clear focus on the acquisition of academic and business-oriented skills in the advanced language courses.

The language modules comprise 67.5 learning units per semester.


Learning Goals 

Within the framework of the modules, students will acquire the language skills and develop skills that are necessary for a business-oriented professional or academic activity. The following competencies are taught according to the CEFR, i.e. after completing the module, successful graduates will master the following activities in the target language:

  • A1-A2 
    Basic communication skills
     
  • B1-B2 
    Advanced language use and communication skills
     
  • B2-C1: 
    Spontaneous, fluent, clear and detailed, structured communication skill
     
  • C1-C2: 
    Spontaneous, fluent, accurate, structured, complex communication skills

Certificate

The International Business School issues a certificate upon completion of the course. For this, 80 percent attendance and a positive course grade are required.

Fees

  • € 100,- per course module per semester
  • Learning materials are not included in the fees.
  • Fees will only be refunded if the course does not take place, e.g. because the minimum number of participants is not reached. In all other situations, no refunds will be made after the paid registration.


Organisation & Implementation

The modules are offered by the International Business School in collaboration with the Center of Language Competencies of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol.


Number of Participants

The prerequisite for language courses to take place is the binding registration of at least 10 participants per group. The maximum number of participants per group is limited to 25.


Conditions of Participation

Upon registration, a digital invoice is sent to the participant's e-mail account before the start of the course. Entitlement to participate in the course is only valid after receipt of payment.

Registration

Registration takes place exclusively online via the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol website (see link above) under the motto "first-come-first-serve," up to and including the first week of the semester as long as space is available. Early registration is recommended.
